Canon CLI-8 ink cartridges come in black, magenta, cyan and yellow ink colors. When canon cli-8 cartridges become low or empty, they can be refilled with ink instead of buying replacement cartridges. The process for refilling all canon cli-8 cartridges is the same, with the exception of the color of refill ink that is added. Care should be taken to follow the correct steps when refilling these cartridges to avoid damaging the cartridge or the printer.

How to refill a canon cli 8

Remove the cartridge from the printer. Cover the ink outlet hole on the bottom of the cartridge with the orange plug that came with the cartridge. Use a rubber band to hold the plug in place.

Locate the small sealing ball on top of the cartridge. Push the sealing ball into the cartridge with a small Allen wrench.

Fill a syringe with the appropriate color and amount of ink. Black CLI-8 cartridges hold 13 milliliters of ink. Cyan, magenta and yellow color ink cartridges all hold six milliliters of ink. You may want to purchase the ink as part of a refill kit specifically designed for the CLI-8.

Insert the needle of the syringe into the hole created when the sealing ball was pushed in. Slowly inject the ink into the ink chamber.

Seal the hole with a plug from a refill kit. Seal the hole with a drop of hot glue if a plug is not available. Make sure the seal is airtight to prevent ink from leaking out.
Remove the orange outlet seal from the bottom of the cartridge. Replace the cartridge in the printer. Run one to three print head cleaning cycles on the printer to get the ink flowing through the print head.
